America's Got Talent for some reason has requested that YouTube not allow anyone to embed their videos, so you will have to click HERE for this Friday Is For Fun. I must say that I don't like Country music, but a little Garth Brooks never hurts from time to time. Check out this Kentucky country boy (and I mean cunntree) sing a little If Tomorrow Never Comes, its a great story!

Greg,

I grew up on country music but Christian discipleship has taught me to actually reflect on the message being communicated. Just as America != the Church, neither do country people necessarily = Christian people. I agree with your point about the song in question.

But a brotherhood speaker once enumerated the cultural ills we face and refered to a popular song titled "I've got friends in low places." His immediate follow-up: "Now doesn't that just bless your heart!" My immediate thought was, "Wait! That's brother Garth you're talking about!" We'll, it's since become clear to me that Garth Brooks, at least since I stopped listening to his music, is no paradigm of Christian faith and obedience (i.e. Trisha Yearwood-gate)

That's when I started to think about what it was I was listening to. Now I can't listen to anything that is not well grounded Christian music for too long. It just seems like a waste of valuable kingdom resources (i.e. time).

Best,

Ben
